Umbro Vision Pro Review

Pure Grip Socks

The Umbro Vision Pro offers a premium synthetic upper that not only fits really well, but feels good too. From right out of the box, the Visio Pro feels very stiff and almost uncomfortably tight, but luckily it gets a lot better. Give this shoe a couple of hours of use to really break-in and loosen up and you are left with easily one of the best fitting indoor soccer shoes on the market. Much like a leather shoe would feel from brand new, the Vision Pro goes from feeling very stiff and rigid to soft and perfectly shaped to your foot.

The slightly padded synthetic upper stretches just the right amount, so the fit that you are left with after break-in is a near perfect one. One of my favorite parts about this shoe is the inside of the heel, as it is exactly the same as the Umbro Speciali 3 Pro, which is a fantastic shoe. It provides a secure fit, plenty of padding and the type of perforated synthetic that it is will never really wear out, so the comfort will last. The sole of the Vision Pro is also very unique in that it actually has a rubber sole with a soft foam material running in between the sole and the upper. It makes for a very nice combination of padding and responsiveness while running, which is great. You also get an OrthoLite insole, something that is generally only found in high-end running shoes. Like any good synthetic shoe, overall fit of the shoe is tight. The forefoot and toe box will fit very close to your foot, while the midfoot is a little more generous in terms of width.

As long as you do not have an unusually wide foot, the Vision Pro should work out just fine for you. I wore my usual size 9US for review and the fit was perfect. Keep in mind that the Vision Pro will feel very tight at first, but give them some time, and they will fit great.

Weight

The listed weight for the Vision Pro is 9.8oz, but I really thought that they felt lighter, so I weighed them myself. The pair that I had, in a size 9US, weighed in at a much less 8.7oz, making them one of the lightest indoor soccer shoes around. No company has really taken on the challenge of creating a lightweight indoor soccer shoe, but the Vision Pro from Umbro, whether or not it was intended, does deliver in this category. If you’re into the lightweight feel, you aren’t going to find much lighter, as far as indoors go, than the Vision Pro.

Traction

The Vision Pro uses a soft rubber for its sole, and will provide plenty of grip, especially on a gym floor. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it will provide more grip than other high end indoor soccer shoes on the market, but as long as the playing surface is dust free, the Vision Pro is not going to let you down. It hovers right in between being so soft that it can only be used in a gym and so hard that you would only want to use them in the streets. Realistically, you could use this as a street soccer shoe, because they will provide the traction, but you will definitely be sacrificing the longevity of the sole, as it will wear away quicker than you may like.

Touch

The indoor game is all about close quarters control and very precise touches, a feel that synthetics tend to do very well. In comparison to easily the most popular indoor soccer shoe on the market in the Nike Mercurial Victory, which in my opinion is not very good, the Vision Pro blows the competition out of the water. Until know, there really wasn’t any quality synthetic indoor soccer shoes on the market, but the upper on the Vision Pro seriously feels great. I would describe the feel of the upper to be thin, but with some slight cushion to it, similar to the Nike CTR360 Maestri series. It fits right against your foot, so touches on the ball feel very precise. If you are one of those people who are really in to that barefoot, as close to the ball as possible feel, you are going to like the Vision Pro. You will also notice that there is a rubber element on the instep of the midfoot, again, similar to the CTR360 from Nike. As to how it feels, it just really isn’t that noticeable. It provides maybe just a little more padding when passing the ball, but it isn’t something that is going to make or break the shoe. If you are looking for a good synthetic indoor soccer shoe, the Vision Pro is arguably the best on the market.

Shooting

The Vision Pro doesn’t offer any kind of striking elements and the overall feel of shooting the ball is what you would expect. Like I described earlier, the synthetic upper is thinner, so obviously the feel when striking the ball is going to be less padded then say a leather boot. Many would also argue that the rubber element on the instep provides some extra grip when curling the ball, but I think that these results are more mental than physical. At the end of the day, the Vision Pro is definitely going to get the job done as far as shooting goes.

Durability

Synthetics almost always tend to be more durable than leather, and this case is no different. The materials are very high and it is all put together really well. The synthetic upper will never over stretch and requires no maintenance, so there is very little that could go wrong. Again, keep in mind that this is a futsal shoe designed for use on indoor surfaces, so taking these out on the street will definitely compromise the durability of the shoe. Overall, this is a tough shoe and it will certainly last a long time.

The Verdict

I have to say that my first impression of this shoe from the first time that I laced them up was not good. Convinced that this was going to be a good shoe, I stuck with them, and after a couple of hours, these have easily become one of my favorite indoor soccer shoes. The quality of synthetic is unrivaled by any other indoor soccer shoe on the market and the fit is fantastic. They provide a solid feel while still being comfortable, and offer one of the best touches of any indoor shoe that I have worn. Not to mention that they are visually striking, the Vision pro is a fantastic indoor soccer shoe and is easily one of the best on the market, especially for the price.
